Wynyard is a growing, family-focused community, yet our children’s education is being left behind. We have just one primary school, which is high-performing but now so oversubscribed that many local children are forced to travel long distances every day to attend school outside the area. This means children are missing out on being educated within their own community, and families are facing unnecessary daily pressure.

A second primary school has been planned for Wynyard since 2016 and is vital to meeting both current and future demand. Despite years of planning, this long-awaited school has recently been placed on a list of school projects that the government is minded to cancel. An appeal is currently underway, with a deadline of 30 January.

Approving a second primary school is not only essential to relieve immediate pressure on families, but it is also the crucial first step towards securing a secondary school for Wynyard in the future. This petition calls on decision-makers to support education in Wynyard and to approve the urgently needed second primary school our community has been waiting for.
