Support for a 10-Year Lease for the Barrington Community Care & Recovery Centre

The Barrington Community Care & Recovery Centre has become an essential anchor for our region, offering support to seniors, families, youth, and children in ways no other organization can. In times of crisis, like the recent wildfires, it was a source of emotional strength, material aid, and long-term recovery, helping our community rebuild both practically and emotionally. This is more than a building; it is a place of belonging, resilience, and healing.

The Centre also provides tangible benefits to our municipality, bringing in tens of thousands of dollars each year through grants and outside funding that would otherwise never reach our area. These funds directly support programs that address food insecurity, promote mental health, and strengthen our collective well-being. Their current plans to expand and restructure the kitchen will further increase their impact.

By granting a 10-year lease extension and assisting with the building upgrades necssary for the addition of the kitchen, Barrington Municipal Council will ensure stability for this vital hub, allowing it to continue investing in long-term upgrades and programming that strengthen our entire community. This decision is not just about a physical building.  It is about affirming that we value care, resilience, and opportunity for all who call Barrington home.

The results of this petition will be presented to Barrington Municipal Committee of the Whole at the next meeting on October 14, 2025 (assuming I can get an appointment).
