Dear supporters,

Thank you so much for backing our campaign to bring Olympic Sailing to Los Angeles, -San Pedro! We’ve made incredible progress — the community is mobilized, our City Council is actively negotiating for the games, and momentum is growing fast.

However, reports you may hear in the news, and a recent article published by Scuttlebutt Sailing News has circulated inaccurate information, suggesting that the sailing venue for the LA28 Olympic Games has already been confirmed as Long Beach. This is not true — no final decision has been announced, and our city is still very much in the running.

You can read the article here:

Scuttlebutt Article – LA28: Long Beach to host Sailing

To ensure our voices are heard and the facts are made clear, I sent a letter to Scuttlebutt requesting a correction.

I'm reaching out to respectfully address a concern regarding your recent article titled “Long Beach to host Sailing”. The article suggests that the sport of sailing for the LA28 Olympic Games will be held in Long Beach, which has not been officially confirmed and does not reflect the current venue negotiations still underway.
In fact, our Los Angeles City Council is actively engaged in discussions to secure the sailing events for the San Pedro community. These ongoing negotiations are part of a broader initiative to ensure greater community access, sustainability, and alignment with ocean-based youth development programs all based in Los Angeles.

I would also like to share the following:

The official LA28 press release issued today confirms that the Olympic venue master plan was presented to the IOC Executive Board and approved. However, it clearly states that “further information on the updated Olympic venue plan will be shared by LA28 at a later date.” No final sailing venue has been publicly announced.

The LA Times article from April 15, may have contributed to some confusion. While it names various venues, it does not confirm sailing’s location and offers no direct quote or source from LA28 on this matter on this issue.

Given the prominence of Scuttlebutt in the global sailing community, I respectfully request that a clarification or correction be made. Accurate information is essential, particularly as local advocates and stakeholders—including our City Council—work diligently to ensure that Olympic sailing reflects the best interest of athletes, the sport, and our coastal communities.

Please let me know if I can provide any further background or connect you with local leadership. I appreciate your time and all you do to support sailing.
