Dear colleagues in the Gaza academia, 

We undersigned read your "open letter to the world" published by Al Jazeera on May 29

 and  hope to help your call to rebuild academia in Gaza to be heard world wide. 

You initiated it as professionals on behalf of Gaza whole society  and to re-build the learning environment that was destroyed by the Occupation through massive unjustified targeting of structures, scholars and students. You reclaim your agency in this process, while asking support worldwide.

We agree with the aim and the perspective of your call: Gaza must be rebuilt by its people and we, from abroad,  can only be ancillary and collaborating to its revival.

We condolesce for the many victims of the attacks among the academia and students, we knew some of them personally. 

We know the devastating effect that the destruction of lives and structures is having on the whole society, both in practical terms, in economic and moral terms and we stand on your side to work in the perspective of regrouping people and preparing tools for a quick restart of education, through the survival in Gaza of the people in the academia, teachers, administration and the students.

We understand how reviving education and higher education is relevant to allow a future to the Gaza Strip and support you in resisting the attacks aiming to dismiss people's goals, culture and perspective of work.

As to now, a first step is to spread your call widely and to collect support of networks and individuals in the academia and in the professions, hoping that this may then take the form of a more substantial support also by Institutions, such as our Universities and cultural institutions, and that it can promote initiatives to eventually support salaries for the employees of Gaza Universities, relive students from taxes  and acquire tools for them so that they can return to learning soon even if remotely.

Car* collegh* del mondo accademico di Gaza,

Noi firmatari, abbiamo letto la vostra "lettera aperta al mondo" pubblicata da Al Jazeera e diffondiamo la vostra richiesta di aiuto per ricostruire il mondo accademico a Gaza in modo che possa essere ascoltata in tutto il mondo.

La avete inviata come professionisti a nome dell’intera società di Gaza allo scopo di trovare sostegno per ricostruire l’ambiente di apprendimento che è stato distrutto dall’occupazione attraverso massicci attacchi ingiustificati contro strutture, studiosi e studenti. In questo processo rivendicate la vostra centralità di azione, chiedendo supporto in tutto il mondo.

Siamo d'accordo con lo scopo e la prospettiva del vostro appello: Gaza deve essere ricostruita dalla sua gente e noi, dall'estero, possiamo solo essere ausiliari e collaborare al suo rilancio.

Porgiamo condoglianze per le numerose vittime degli attacchi nel il mondo accademico e tra gli studenti, alcuni di loro li conoscevamo personalmente.

Conosciamo l’effetto devastante che la distruzione di vite e strutture sta avendo sull’intera società, sia in termini pratici, sia in termini economici e morali e siamo al vostro fianco per lavorare nell’ottica di raggruppare le persone e preparare gli strumenti per una rapida ripartenza dell’istruzione, e di sostenere la sopravvivenza ed il lavoro a Gaza delle persone del mondo accademico, degli insegnanti, dell’amministrazione e degli studenti.

Comprendiamo quanto il rilancio dell'istruzione e dell'istruzione superiore sia importante per consentire un futuro alla Striscia di Gaza e vi supportiamo nella resistenza agli attacchi che mirano a distruggere gli obiettivi, la cultura e la prospettiva di lavoro delle persone.

Per ora, un primo passo è quello di diffondere capillarmente il vostro appello e raccogliere il sostegno di reti e singoli individui nel mondo accademico e nelle professioni, auspicando che questo possa poi concretizzarsi in un sostegno più consistente anche da parte delle Istituzioni, come le nostre Università ed altre istituzioni culturali, e che possa promuovere iniziative per sostenere eventualmente gli stipendi dei dipendenti delle Università di Gaza, sollevare gli studenti dalle tasse e acquisire per loro strumenti affinché possano tornare presto a studiare anche se a distanza.
