SUPPORT ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS TO BUILDING A GUN RANGE & SNIPER TOWER IN BOWIE NATURE PARK

The Issue

PETITION UPDATE!

THIS PETITION'S PURPOSE IS TO STOP THE PROPOSED GUN RANGE & SNIPER TOWER FROM BEING BUILT IN BOWIE NATURE PARK. IT SUPPORTS LOOKING FOR ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS TO MEET BOTH THE NEEDS OF THE CITY OF FAIRVIEW'S POLICE DEPARTMENT & MAINTAIN THE PRESERVATION AND CONSERVATION OF BOWIE NATURE PARK.

As of 2/13/25 the City of Fairview has moved forward quickly to approve the following for the FVPD Range approving:

  1. The site selection of a parcel of land @ 7041 Dice Lampley Rd surrounded by Bowie Nature Park property
  2. Changes in City Codes to make City projects exempt from city codes
  3. Allocation of $750,000 of the City of Fairview's budget to move forward with this plan!

The community has NOT BEEN ADEQUETLY NOTIFIED ABOUT THIS OUTDOOR RANGE PLAN OR ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS

There has not been adequate review and studies assessing the following:

  1. Safety of park patrons- walkers, bikers, horse back riders, birders etc.
  2. Ecological impact on the wildlife, forest, land, and watershed protection efforts
  3. Noise pollution:  Guns shots can be heard up to 2 miles away. This area around the proposed site includes all of the Bowie Park acreage, neighboring homes and planned communities, schools and churches. Have these residents been advised of this impending noise pollution issue?
  4. Park usage impact:  How will the park patronage be effected by the noise pollution- will walkers, hikers, bikers, joggers, birders, horse back riders etc enjoy listening to continual gun shots while visiting the Bowie Nature Park
  5. Alternative solutions:  Offering alternative solutions that may include the local community to provide and support both the Bowie Nature Park and City of Fairview Police Department
