Support Afghan Refugees in Exeter - Grant Them Asylum!
The Issue
As a member of the Exwick Cricket Club community, I am writing this petition to express my unwavering support for our Afghan refugee friends who have become an integral part of our cricket club and our lives. These individuals have shown immense dedication, kindness, and a genuine passion for fostering unity within our community.
Personal Story:
I vividly remember the day when these remarkable lads joined our cricket club. Their journey to Exeter was filled with unimaginable hardships and challenges that most of us cannot even fathom. Despite all odds, they arrived here seeking safety and a chance at a better life.
Since their arrival, these Afghan refugees have not only become skilled cricketers but also cherished members of our community. They have embraced the spirit of camaraderie, always willing to lend a helping hand to others on and off the field. Their presence has enriched our lives in countless ways.
Cricket is more than just a sport; it is an avenue for integration, friendship, and personal growth. Our Afghan friends have exemplified these values through their commitment to fair play, teamwork, and respect for opponents. They have bridged cultural gaps by sharing their rich heritage with us while embracing ours as well.
However, recent discussions about relocating them from local hotels where they currently reside are causing distress among both the refugees themselves and those who consider them part of their extended family – including myself. It is crucial that we stand together as a community to ensure that they are granted asylum in the UK so that they can continue being valued members of society right here in Exeter.
Supporting Facts:
1) According to UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), Afghanistan remains one of the top countries producing refugees due to ongoing conflict.
2) The UK government has recognized Afghanistan as an unsafe country through its policies on asylum seekers.
3) Afghan refugees have made significant contributions to the UK, including in sports, arts, academia, and various industries.
Conclusion:
By signing this petition, you are not only supporting our Afghan friends' right to remain in the UK but also acknowledging their immense value to our community. Granting them asylum will allow them to continue being active members of our cricket club and contribute positively to Exeter's cultural diversity.
Let us come together as a united community and send a powerful message that Exeter stands with its Afghan refugee friends. Together, we can ensure that they find safety and security while continuing to enrich our lives through their presence.
Thank you for your support!
