Who?

The Canadian Surf/SUP Community needs to create an officially recognized National Surf/SUP Organization to govern all surf sports included in the International Surfing Association definition.

The Goal?

The new NSO must win recognition from Sport Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee, International Surfing Association and the International Olympic Committee.

The new NSO must (re)qualify for federal sport funding, strive to develop the sports of surfing and SUP including all their disciplines, and meet surf/SUP community needs at all levels of competition nationwide.

Why?

Since 2023 the previous NSO, CSA Surf Canada, lost its status as the official NSO because it did not meet federal NSO requirements. Accordingly, Canadian surfers and SUPers lost all federal funding and athlete assistance as well as other essential federal supports such as access to the Canadian Safe Sport Program

What is happening?

For MANY years CSA Surf Canada has been operating independently as a federally unsupported sport organization, with no transparency or external oversight, and little engagement with sport development and provincial surf/SUP organizations. The Federal government has created new guidelines for NSOs to receive funding. The current CSAsurf Canada does not meet any of the requirements.

What we need?

Everyone can play a part, and every surf and SUP community across the country deserves representation by the new NSO. It won’t happen without your help!

The Canadian surf/SUP community needs an inclusive, transparent NSO with democratically appointed representation from across the country - a diverse board that includes the professional skill sets necessary to run a responsible and effective NSO.

This NSO will have a mission to develop and grow the sport of surfing in Canada, by hosting events, creating athlete development pathways, developing and certifying coaches and judges, and providing leadership and support to all Canadian surf/SUP athletes, coaches, and provincial and community organizations.
