The Issue

Park County, Wyoming is listening to its residents. After an outpouring of public opposition, commissioners are proposing to prohibit data centers from most areas of the county, including residential and commercial zones, and require special-use permits with public hearings in the limited areas where they could apply.

This is exactly how local government should work. But the proposal still needs to be finalized. Now is the time to show commissioners that people across Wyoming and across the country back their decision to put community input first.

Park County's own Planning Director, Joy Hill, told commissioners she doesn't have enough information about data centers' power and water demands to even advise on them comfortably, and that "generally the public is not favoring them," according to WyoFile. Cheyenne has already seen dozens of data centers built or planned in just a few years. Park County has a chance to set a different standard before that wave arrives.

Sign this petition to urge the Park County Commission to adopt these restrictions and protect Wyoming communities from unchecked data center expansion.
