Dear animal lover,
Cordelia from The Humane League UK here. I’m on the ground outside Co-op’s new multi-million pound music arena in Manchester, which we’ve rebranded as Cop-Out Live.
Around me, protestors are making their message clear: Co-op bosses must not cop-out on animals. We have banners, leaflets, and some great chants.
Looking up at the vast arena, I’m reminded of something Chair of the Co-op, Allan Leighton, said after 96% of Co-op members voted to end the cruel use of Frankenchickens in May:
“It costs to do the right thing. And you can’t always do the right thing at the right time. The most important thing is to do the right thing eventually.”
Talking about the cost of ending animal abuse while Co-op pours money into a £365 million vanity project? It was a corker of an excuse.
We’re not going to let Allan and other Co-op bosses cop-out like this.
Can you help us pull this off?
Co-op bosses have focused on this expensive vanity project rather than ending their Frankenchicken cruelty.
Wouldn’t it be a shame if their shiny new arena was associated with animal cruelty before it even officially opened?
