Supermarkets need to pay Free Range Egg producers 40 p/doz more to keep them in business

The Issue

Please sign the petition to ask retailers to put Free Range Egg prices up.

The Ukrainian crisis has seen costs for many everyday items rocket up in price, Free Range Eggs are no exception, yet the price in the supermarkets hasn’t changed.

Here are some Free Range Egg production statistics:

 • Feed up 50%

 • Energy up 40%

 • Diesel up 30%

 • New hens up 15%

• 51% of BFREPA (British Free Range Egg Producer Association) members say they are seriously considering leaving egg production

 • There are about 28m free range and organic hens in Britain so even losing a small percentage would have a big impact on egg supply

We are asking for:

 • Retailers to put up the price of eggs in stores by 40p and for the money to get down to farmers to keep them afloat

 • Tesco made a £2bn pre-tax profit last year. Sainsbury’s £720m. Asda £693m. Meanwhile many farms are facing going bust.

This can’t carry on and we can’t import more eggs from abroad as this problem is a worldwide crisis, and every country is facing similar cost inflation, and supply issues.

So come on Retailers, stop using Free Range Egg producers as a loss leader to get customers into your stores, and start paying a fair price.

Supporting this petition will show the “Big Six” retailers there is willingness from the consumer to pay more for our UK produced, high welfare, Free Range eggs, and hopefully persuade them to do something about it before it’s too late.
