I am creating this petition because I believe our children should not have to walk over 2 miles to get to school! My son is 11 and not even allowed to go across the street to the park without his older brother now I have to let him walk 1.89 miles to school? The road he would walk on is a 35 mile speed limit. Not to mention the elements we deal with here in Reno. We have freezing cold winters and lots of snow. Unfortunately me and my husband have to work early as I'm sure many parents do. The last thing we should worry about is our children making it safely to school!!!! I am also worried about the number of registered sex affenders within a two mile radius from any school in the WCSD. Alot can happen in two miles! The school district has worked with me and is "allowing" my son to catch a bus a mile away from our house..still a little far but better than two miles! We need to stand up to the school district! These are our tax dollars they are spending and I believe they need to redo this budget and do what is best for our kids not their wallets!
