The Seattle Parks Department is proposing to restrict dog walkers to a pack size of 6 dogs. For the average Professional Dog Walker, this means a reduction of income by 25% -40%, thus sending many of us below the poverty line. This is unacceptable. This means many of us either go out of business or will have to raise our rates by 25-40%, which would be unaffordable to many of our clients.  The Seattle Parks Department, under the Parks Master Plan, wants to create a Permit for Professional Dog Walkers to purchase on a yearly basis. The permit is not the issue, the issue is creating a situation with a dog limit of 6 that the permit would not be needed due to professional dog walkers having to close their businesses down. We have been successfully doing pack sizes of 10 without issue for many years (for some professionals it has been decades). Professional Dog Walkers have created WOLF (Walkers are Off Leash Friends) which is in partnership with COLA (Citizens for Off Leash Areas) to help raise the bar of Professional Walkers and what we do and provide for our dog parks (OLA, off-leash areas). To be a member of WOLF you not only have to follow the Best Practices (such as having business liability insurance) but as well have your Seattle business licence. We are standing together and fighting to keep our livelihoods going and for the well being of the dogs in our care and for the safety of the OLA's (off-leash areas / dog parks) throughout Seattle. We offer education and volunteer hours and are trying tirelessly to work with Seattle Parks Dept. Board to come to a mutual understanding. We need your support to keep the fight alive and have our voices and those of our dogs be heard by the Parks Board, the Superintendent of Seattle Parks and Recreation and the Mayors office.
