A few days ago KOMO NEWS did a somewhat fair, news piece on: Seattle Asian Art Museum Will Close with Expansion Stalled. They included the letter from the Seattle Parks Department with questions for the Seattle Art Museum, which also asked them to pause the project. The news piece also had a new response letter from SAM with answers to SPD’s questions. Our PVP team is currently working on our own feedback to SAM’s Director Kim Rorschach’s letter. See the news piece here: http://komonews.com/news/local/seattle-asian-art-museum-will-close-with-expansion-stalled Prior to the construction of the museum, the site contained a timber-framed pavilion. The Olmsted Brothers objected to its replacement by the new institutional building as an inharmonious interjection into the park, and violation of the completed park design. So strong was their position that they severed their longstanding work relationship with the museum designer, Carl Gould, of Bebb & Gould Architects. As a result, the spare landscape design for the museum was undertaken by local landscape architect Nobel F. Hoggson Jr. - found in National Register of Historic Places Registration Form We are continuing with our fight to protect Volunteer Park from more building instead of green space. We go to meetings, write and call government officials. We are connecting with other like minded neighborhood groups who are also trying to protect their own parks. Now is the time to get the word out. Thank you for your support and please continue to share our petition with others and on social media. We have put your beautiful comments on our website: https://thinkagainsaam.org/peoples-comments/. When the time is right we will give our petition to the Parks Superintendent and copies to the City Mayor and others. Please go to our action page on www.protectvolunteerpark.org and to see what more you can do to take action. Calling Seattle’s Mayor, Ed Murray (206-684-4000) with your dislike of the land grab happening in Volunteer Park is a good place to start. Thank you for your support, Protect Volunteer Park Team
