No Change To The Ore City Rebels Mascot

The Issue

We all love our little town. Home of the Mighty Ore City Rebels! In case some people did not know, we did not come from a negative background to get our name. Nope, not at all!! For many years, Ore City only offered elementary and junior high classes.  That is until the year of 1963. You see, back in the fall of 1962 students who were coming out of junior high had to choose to attend Gilmer or Diana for their High School education.  Well they finally had ENOUGH, after having to bus the students between these two campuses. Ore City finally decided to keep their students and secede from these two schools, and Gilmer and Diana referred to the Ore City students as, yep you guessed it, REBELS!  Our colors were chosen from our previous host schools, Gold from Diana and Black from Gilmer, giving us our mighty Black and Gold colors today!  As you can see it didn't derive from a harsh, negative sentiment. The simplicity of it is, they were Rebels then, so we can be Rebels now! Sign our petition to show that we, as Rebels, can keep OUR history alive!

An army of Rebels are we,

we work and we play all together

We're proud of our school as can be,

and we want you all to know

We LOVE Ore City High and we aim,

to SUPPORT her in fair or foul weather

We know we are right when we say

ORE CITY HIGH, ORE CITY HIGH

WILL LIVE FOREVER

FIGHT!
