Coach Michael Hathorn has been an important part of the Ragland community, especially our football aged young men, for the past year. Coach Hathorn inherited a bad situation when most of the football staff left and/ or were let go at the end of last year and has worked hard this year to earn the trust of our young men and mend our broken football program. We have had a very unstable school system over the last few years with teachers coming and going and especially where our football program is concerned. Our children need a stable influence in their young lives, someone who well stick with them and help them grow into fine young men that understand the meaning of the word team and the importance of sticking to it when things get hard. We believe coach Hathon is that person. Our spring game showed the potential these young men have under Coach Hathorn's leadership and learning that we have lost him has broken many of these young men's hearts, my son's included.

 

Coach Hathorn has put his heart and soul into helping our kids from working with our peewee program all the way to our high school team. I'm not sure how the decision was made to terminate our beloved coach but I know that this is not a position that is going away so we ask the support of the community to help us get him back on the field and in the classroom to help support our children and help them grow both as individuals and a team. He moved his family to our community to show his dedication to us and now it's our turn to show our support of him. Bio
My name is Michael Hathorn and I teach 7th and 8th grade History here at Ragland.  This is my first year here and it has been great.  Along with teaching I also serve as the Athletic Director, Head Football Coach, and Head Girls Basketball Coach.  This is my 6th year teaching.  In the past I have taught World History, Government and Economics, Physical Education, and Career Choices.  Previously I have worked at Pell City High School, Hatton High School, and Kossuth High School.  

I received my degree from the University of North Alabama.  While attending UNA, I was a member of the football team.  I was a three year starter at left tackle and All Gulf South Conference my senior year.  While on the team we won 1 Gulf South Conference Championship and made it to the NCAA Division II semi-finals twice.  After college I had the opportunity to play professional football in the Austrian Football League.  I played one season for the Salzburg Bull Organization in Salzburg, Austria.  I gained so much from the game of football and I am very thankful for the opportunities that I have had.  

I have been married to my wife, Bailee, for four years.  She is also a teacher.  She teaches 2nd grade at Iola Roberts Elementary in Pell City.  We met while at UNA.  She was a student trainer for the football team while I was playing.  Just recently, my wife and I have welcomed our twin boys into our lives.  They were born in January.  Bankston Keith Hathorn was 3 lbs and 4 oz.  Beckett Michael was 3 lbs and 15 oz.  They are truly a blessing to our family and we are excited to have them.
