In November 2018, Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of SpongeBob SquarePants, sadly passed away. A couple days later, a petition was created to have 'Sweet Victory' played at the Super Bowl Halftime show in honor of Stephen. At the end of December, the petition reached 1 million signatures and in the coming weeks, Maroon 5 heavily teased that this event was going to occur. What did we end up with? A ten second clip. And only three of those seconds were actually 'Sweet Victory'. Three. Seconds. They essentially lied to us for nothing but views and social media attention on the Halftime show and I believe we all deserve a rightful apology from Maroon 5. Not only for lying, but for the low and disgusting act of disrespecting Stephen Hillenburg and his iconic legacy.
