Here at Geneseo we are held to a very high standard. Considered the 'ivy of the sunys' students are placed under immense pressure to flourish both academically and socially. However, when at times where the services and resources are not granted to students how can they thrive? 

Recently Geneseo students were sent an email stating that rather than being closed for only one semester in order to remove trace amounts of asbestos, the library is 'expected to open during the 2024-25 school year' in order to update and modernize the library. This would mean that many students will not have a proper library to utilize during their time at Geneseo. Though the library resources have been relocated to Sturges Hall quiet study spaces are scarce on campus.  

Having a college campus without a library is like having a bowl of pasta without silverware, there is no way that you could possibly enjoy it to the full extent that is normal. Without proper resources students won't be able to study effectively like they were able to before. Small study spaces have been established around campus, however those study spaces are not able to accommodate the sheer number of students on campus.

We, the students are hoping to convince the college to reduce the cost of tuition in order to compensate students for the lost study space. Additionally, we ask that Suny Geneseo provides transportation to a nearby library either at the University of Rochester or the Rochester Institute of Technology so that students are able to effectively study.
