Max Lee started this petition to SUNY Fredonia and

In the summer of 2019 at SUNY Fredonia with no students on campus, Vice President of SUNY Fredonia determined "Stockpiles" by Rainy Lehrman Inappropriate by matter of opinion on campus. This sculpture, along with others have been brought to campus by Art Forum's In Sight/ On Site Committee, run by students, picked out by students, and for students. Many faculty and administrators began voicing their option on "aesthetics" of art, claiming that they didn't like it, and wanted it removed. Wasting time and resources, Interim President Hefner deemed this discussion irrelevant and unimportant. This was the last discussion had about this problem.

Students of Art Forum have now gotten word that this Vice President Has claimed "Stockpiles" Interferes with construction to the cement walkway outside of Rockefeller Arts Center, which is not true as stated by the buildings and grounds crew of SUNY Fredonia. The artist has now been demanded to come upstate from New York City, and dismantle the work, or the building crew will instead, all within less than a week. The artwork has been approved to stay on campus until the spring semester, of 2022. The removal of this work shortens this date by a whole year.

There is many, many problems with this order from this Vice President. He claims that the funding for this project came from state funds, which it did not. He has not once contacted the president of the club, or any students involved. He has worked behind the back of his fellow colleagues once before to get this sculpture removed in 2019 by telling grounds crew that it must be removed. It would seem that He is more in favor of using funds of SUNY Fredonia's tight budget to pay people to have this removed, than to save money by letting this sculpture stay.

The most disrespectful and wrong point of this, Is that no students have been involved in this process. the only news given was a leak of this information both times. This is especially insulting as students are the ones who have organized and aquired the artist, worked with the artist to install, and continue to try and bring these artists to campus. By taking action on matter of opinion, this Vice President has set a precedent of censorship by matter of opinion on SUNY Fredonia's campus. This creates the path for anyone to silence the voice of others based on matter of power and opinion. This interferes and violates SUNY Fredonia's mission statement.

By signing this petition, you are not only showing support for "Stockpiles," but raising your voice to not be silenced or censored by anyone who "doesn't like it." We cannot let our artistic expression be silenced by a selfish and anti-student-oriented Vice President.
