Dear Mr Menchaca I wish to take this opportunity to let you know that the residents of Sunset Park are not in favor of your desired use of our pier at 58th Street. Our need for an oasis is critical. We do NOT want to have barges or other large ships parked at our pier, sitting high in the water, ruining our views, with the hum of their fans, which I believe have to run to clear the oil vapors so the ships don't explode, polluting the air quality, as well as all the movement that will ensue. Rather, we want, nay demand, that we receive the same consideration as Bay Ridge and have a community pier. One with an education center and bathrooms, with running water for people who fish and visit the pier. We must have free wi-fi and a charging station. Also a boat launch for kayaks, canoes and small boats. Further we must have access every day, having the same hours as the 69th street pier. In addition, it must not be closed for other miscellaneous uses by city or used as a parking lot. If you truly want to represent the Sunset Park community and fight for what our community wants and needs, you will show your support by campaigning for our pier per the above.
