release information regarding the disappearance of Shannan Gilbert

The Issue

On May 1, 2010, in Suffolk County, in the community of Oak Beach, a woman, Shannan Gilbert, called 911 at 4:51 am requesting police assistance. She was later observed by neighbors running from house to house and knocked on two different neighbor's doors. The neighbors made subsequent 911 calls. The second call was made at 5:22 am. Responding officers assert they were on scene 10 minutes after the second call. The original caller, Shannan Gilbert, was found deceased in December 2011, only yards from where her 911 call took place. There is no record of the May 1, 2010 incident other than the calls to 911. After the discovery of Ms. Gilbert's body, the SCPD has asserted that the contents of the 911 calls have no evidentiary value to account for how Ms. Gilbert's body was later found yards from where her 911 call took place. A former detective of the case has written and had published a letter disputing the public's perceved notion of the events that took place on May 1, 2010. The public's understanding of the events during the early morning of May 1, 2010, has only been through press conferences held by SCPD before and after the discovery of Ms. Gilbert's remains. Ms. Gilbert's disappearance shed light on the discovery of many bodies along the coastline in Suffolk County indicating a serial killer. Ms. Gilbert was in Suffolk County on May 1, 2010, as a known prostitute. The lack of a police or incident report by SCPD for May 1, 2010, begs the question of a cover up on a larger scale by SCPD. The former detective who claims he responded to the scene on May 1, 2010, asserts that even though Ms. Gilbert was on the 911 call for 23 minutes, she was calm during that call, yet was frantic and running door to door. Because the 911 tape has not been released, there are few who can confirm or deny the content of that call. The SCPD's further comments assert that Ms. Gilbert's demise was an "accidental drowning" in inches of water 100 ft from the main road. The statements from the SCPD regarding this case question the intelligence of the People. It has been over 2 years since the start of this case and no resolution has been made by the SCPD. Because this case includes the work of a serial killer in Suffolk County, the subsequent actions by them creates serious doubt that everything is being done to apprehend those involved. It is of great risk to the residents of Suffolk County and the rest of the Country if the serial killer has since moved. If the members of society do not speak up and question the words and actions of the SCPD and hold them accountable, who will? My petition is a call to the SCPD to release Shannan Gilbert's 911 call, the 2 neighbors' 911 calls, any/all police or incident reports and supplemental reports for May 1, 2010 to present, an intake list on items received through an executed search and seizure warrant, and a copy of the ME report on Shannan Gilbert. The public needs answers. More Importantly, Shannan's family and friends need answers!
