On Wednesday May 13, 2015 it became known to the public that an unnamed 17-year-old juvenile was taken into custody for animal abuse charges in the Dorchester area of Boston, Massachusetts. As upsetting as this news is, those of us who care about animal welfare want to make sure that this individual does not get a slap on the wrist. As reported in the media this "juvenile" methodically used a machete, handsaw and other weaponry to mutilate and kill multiple cats at an abandoned property. Given the disturbing evidence found at the scene and the knowledge that this individual took great effort to hurt these living beings, we believe he is a serious danger to the community and needs to be locked away.

Throughout Dorchester and Boston areas there are many feral and abandoned cats that wander through out the neighborhoods. These cats, although homeless and abandoned, actually have caretakers in many areas. Caretakers that feed, TNR (Trap Neuter and Release) and provide care for the cats. Those cats who are friendly are taken off the streets and found homes by these caretakers. The others who are not adoptable stay in their colonies on the streets and a small group of individuals provide care for them. We do this because we understand it's the most humane thing to do for these cats. It's an uphill battle to educate people on responsible ownership ...with that said ... no cat should be abused and tortured by a deranged "juvenile".

At 17 yrs of age to methodically cause cruelty to an innocent animal shows a sociopathic nature. The lack of empathy and compassion exhibited in the nature of these crimes must be dealt with head on. Studies have shown a link between animal cruelty of this nature and the potential that the abuser may move on to human victims. As you are aware the recent case of Puppy Doe and the abuse suffered by this dog at the hands of a sick and twisted mind caused enough concern for people to speak up and bring about law changes. The new law S.2345 signed in to affect in August 2014 increases punishment for heinous animal cruelty crimes such as this crime committed by a 17 year old "juvenile".

We the undersigned implore the Suffolk District Attorney's office to take correct action in regards to prosecuting a 17 year old who would methodically seek out and kill cats in a heinous way!
