Open source Sublime Text

Open source Sublime Text
The Issue
Sublime text is one of the best editor currently available. It is fast, feature rich, cross-platform and well designed. Yes, there are atom and brackets now which are very good, but those are not lightweight and performant as sublime. When working with huge codebases or log files, it is very evident that sublime is zippy compared to the browser shell editors.
Unfortunately, the development of sublime of late has been almost nil, the last blog post is more than 10 months old, version 3 is in beta for years (it was announced Jan 2013). This cause people to move away from sublime into atom or brackets.
If the current situation continues, sublime will slowly and surely go into oblivion. Which is really sad for a game changer, which inspired the new generation of editors. It would be very well received in the open source community, and there would be many who wish to contribute to the development and keep it literally sublime.
