The Pickens county library board voted to restart all of the youth and teen programs at their last special called meeting. Mostly this is a deterrent to keep people from focusing on the real issue which is their subjective and onerous policy. They have another special meeting tonight to discuss the employee grievance of most likely the previous library director Stephanie Howard. At the last meeting, they also formally are recommending an interim director to the county. It is worth noting that our local county law states that the county administrator should be fully involved in the hiring process of director positions and there was no sign of the county administrator at this meeting where they conducted the interview in an executive session. There was also no proxy for the county administrator. Additionally, the last item of the agenda at the last meeting was to change the official regular meeting times of the library board from 6:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.. interestingly enough, this was explained as an accommodation to the interim director who has not even been officially hired. Seems mostly like they had someone already in mind to hire for the interim as this person has said specifically they do not want the position full time, this person was also someone who does have a good bit of experience in the library system but they have been retired and have not been in working status for a library for some time and comes from Lexington county I believe. So basically a scapegoat to push the library board's agenda and then get out of there before all of the fallout such as legal actions, lawsuits, etc. a fall guy and a puppet. Even though the programs are restarting, that is not the core of the issue. The core of the issue is censorship and banning of book by accessibility with this policy. So we need to make sure we are continuing to push. Continue to share this petition and continue to show up. I will be at the meeting tonight though it was called very quickly so I understand if not many people are, but everyone try to be at the meeting on March 19th. Currently scheduled for 5:30 p.m. thank you everyone for your support. Let's get our library back!
