Listen to your users, Subeta, and save our galleries!
The Issue
Background
The virtual world of Subeta has, for over a decade, provided its members with galleries for displaying their in-game acquisitions. There are currently over 70,000 different in-game items on the site, and many members have made impressive efforts towards that total.
There has been discussion on the site in the past about limiting the size of user shops to relieve demand on the site servers, but the site owner, Keith Kurson, stated on June 8, 2015, "Galleries won't have limits, because they'll be spun off into separate pages."
On April 7, 2016, and with just ten days' notice, the site owner reneged on that promise, announcing "For the new shops and galleries, we’ve set limits for how many items you can have in each [...] On April 24th, all old shops will be disabled."
What we ask from Subeta
We are asking simply that the site honor its June 8, 2015, commitment not to limit the size of galleries. Your members have put years of work into building these galleries, and many of these members have financially supported the site by purchasing Cash Shop items for these galleries or by purchasing Gold Accounts in order to earn more items to display in their galleries.
Limiting the size of the galleries, and especially after having previously promised not to limit their size, will do serious damage to the morale and enjoyment members derive from the site. This is evidenced by (at the time of this writing) nearly 700 comments to the April 7 announcement, and another 300 comments in the Site Feedback forum, which are overwhelmingly critical of this terrible decision.
The site's members have long been reasonable and patient with the growing pains and other difficulties that the site has experienced, and we agree to work constructively to find other ways of resolving the issue that the proposed gallery ceilings are intended to address.
Should the site nevertheless follow through and drastically limit the size of galleries, we ask instead that a full refund be offered to all members for Cash Shop items purchased for gallery display since June 8, 2015, since these items were purchased subsequent to a false promise about the members' future ability to display these items.
What we ask from Subeta's members
Please share this petition with your friends on Subeta and ask them to sign it. Even if you are not directly affected by the limitation on the size of members' galleries, you should still be concerned about the site owner making commitments to future plans and then breaking those commitments. Feel free to link to this petition in your user profile or forum signatures.
We also ask that members refrain from logging into Subeta on Friday, April 15, 2016. We hope that a visible, but peaceful, sign of solidarity will help alert Subeta and its owner to the seriousness with which we take this matter.
