The Eurovision Song Contest is the one of the biggest cultural events in the European calendar. Ran by the European Broadcast Union (EBU) since 1957, it has put the nations of Europe (and beyond) to the test to show their musical talents.

Since 1957, Scotland has competed as apart of the UK who, even as one of the 'big five', has not done too well. With it's own musical and cultural identity, it about time for Scotland to submit it's own entry and compete within Eurovision Song Contest. Many nations have joined and rejoined the contest over the years with Australia, through the broadcaster SBS, being one of the most recent. All Scotland needs is a broadcaster to enter is and for the European Broadcast Union to accept the entry.

But how does a nation qualify for Eurovision? Within Eurovision rules, entry is by a full member of the European Broadcast Union. Scotland has one broadcaster who solely broadcasts within Scotland, STV. They could act as the national broadcaster to enter the competition on our behalf.

This petition requests that STV seek to enter Scotland into the contest, and by a mix of jury and a Scottish Song Contest, select an Act and for the EBU to accept Scotland and it's entry for Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam.

As Scottish entry can also be done better than the UK has before. Instead of our entry being selected exclusively by our national jury as currently done by the BBC for the UK, this can be a mixture of jury and a Scottish Song Contest which could also act as a way to promote Scottish music talent.

Even if we don't win, just to have the chance to compete would be amazing and to promote Scottish talent on the European stage. Maybe even one day, just like in the recent Netflix film Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020), we could see Edinburgh or Glasgow hosting the contest.
