Stuyvesant High School only has ONE single-stall gender-neutral student bathroom for over 3,000 students. This negatively affects students who use the bathroom in mental, social, and physical ways. Many transgender, non-binary, and gender nonconforming students (and others) use the bathroom use the bathroom to feel safe and comfortable at school. For those who use it, using gendered bathrooms are often NOT an option.

Many who use the bathroom find it anxiety-provoking as it is usually occupied. For those who use the bathroom to change into their physical education uniforms, the anxiety is only exacerbated as they worry about being late to class and having to explain the issues to their teachers. 

Not providing gender-neutral bathrooms is ultimately UNSAFE, and TRANSPHOBIC and DISCRIMINATORY. The Stuyvesant Administration must address this issue now to show that they care for ALL of their students and their needs.

This petition is for Stuyvesant to create more gender neutral bathrooms by converting some of the many men’s and women's bathrooms in the school (some of which are mostly unused) to gender neutral.
