The Issue

Give Costa Mesa Animals a Home

Costa Mesa needs a long-term plan for animal sheltering.

Right now, our city depends on outside providers. When those arrangements change, Costa Mesa is left searching for the next solution.

We should not wait for another emergency.

We are asking the Costa Mesa City Council to study what it would take to create a permanent, locally controlled animal sheltering model, including the possibility of a city-owned shelter.

Before any decision is made, we need clear answers:

  • How much would it cost?
  • Where could it be located?
  • What services should the City provide?
  • Could a nonprofit or private partner help operate it?
  • Are grants, donations or sponsorships available?
  • What can we learn from other cities?

We may find that a city-owned shelter is the best answer. We may find that another model works better.

The point is to do the work now, involve the public and make a thoughtful plan for the future.

By signing this petition, you are asking the City Council to support a transparent study of Costa Mesa’s long-term animal sheltering options.

Our animals deserve a real plan. Let's give them one!
