The Problem: 

The Pritchard Dining Hall at UBC Okanagan currently remains open and operating, not because they deserve to be, but because first year students are required to pay 6000$ in order to obtain housing on campus and it is mandatory. Now, admittedly this sounds like a steal of a deal. Their advertising for this dining hall was talked about with such prestige that it feels manipulative to the students who are about to consume their underprepared and undercooked excuse for a meal. Many students and I, on campus have experienced illness from food poisoning as well the inability to eat at Prichard’s dining comfortably. After losing roughly 15 pounds from malnourishment I held meetings with the Dietician and Head Chef and felt nothing but a range of disappointment being told in response to one image of their poorly done meals “Are you sure that's ours?” Additionally, I shared a piece of raw chicken from back in October- an experience that is quite common while dining here, to which they did nothing but claim they have rigorous routines to avoid undercooked chicken regardless of the over excessive amount that it has happened. I wholeheartedly believe that under no circumstances students should have to spend a single dollar on food that is inedible. Our education and the place we choose to go should not be dictated upon by crappy meals. I was told that the quickest change will happen by next year, but the students before us were also given that same promise.  What We Suggest They Do:

 A: Pritchard Dining should be required to do a full overhaul, change their menus completely, go back to the basics cooking only what they know they can achieve and go out of their way to find suppliers they can trust to provide fresh meat, bread and dairy foods. They should be expected to go through new training, protocols etc. Because these ones are simply just not working. There needs to be a change in leadership, preferably one that comes from a place of understanding and someone who can lead this haul to success and growth. 

 B: It is evident that students don't like being forced to pay for meals they strongly dislike, allowing students living on campus to opt out of the meal plan or at least be given the ability to return to the old meal plan that was used prior to Prichards opening in 2021.

C: Students should be given a full refund on the portion of their meal plan they haven't used, as we cannot afford to have our money taken from us and taken for granted. 

This issue has been ignored since the last petition in 2021, it is evident that we demand change and we can no longer have this issue ignored by the Higher Ups at UBCO.
