Stop the grading curriculum change at all Chamberlain University’s campuses.
The Issue
Good afternoon,
I feel comfortable enough to voice my concerns, as Chamberlain has made it their mission to ensure our continued success and assistance along this educational journey thus far. I am hopeful my concerns will be understood, thoroughly examined, and addressed, as there are major changes happening at all Chamberlain campuses coming this March 2021 session. The grading changes include taking out important core assignments, such as our ATI assignments, and changing them to supplemental. This leaves us with little room to improve our core grades other than our 3 exams we take. The Content Mastery Series Assessments and Student Binder criteria will also transition the proficiency levels to individual scores. We need a certain grade for our core in order to pass the class. With having less assignments for our core, this puts a lot of pressure on passing just exams to pass our core.
I have been on this academic journey for a little over a year now at Chamberlain and have always felt that the course assignment values were just and fair- that was a huge reason why I chose this school over others. As I have confidently chosen to take on the pressure of an intense and accelerated nursing program, I have not chosen the circumstances in which we are currently in and undergoing due to an unprecedented time and world-wide pandemic. The pressure of a nursing program is that much more intensified as it is virtual, where we are learning to manage school from home, trying our best to remain in an undistracted environment, teaching ourselves hands on skills, and dealing with others in our household who are working from home, as well. I strongly believe it is unfair to make such a strong change in our grading system to the students who are already and have been involved in this program, dealing with the significant changes we have already succumbed to. I am halfway through my journey here at Chamberlain and to have this major course assignment change is devastating and disappointing, as I feel my future success within this program is not being closely considered. The students that have been involved in this program should have grandfathered rights and should adhere to the prior grading system, whereas I feel that this new change in the grading system should be applied to new and future students.
I greatly appreciate everything Chamberlain has done thus far, however, I am hoping there will be care and compassion for the students who have already gone through an exceptional amount of pressure during this time and that there will be a reexamination and reconsideration regarding the new course assignment changes for those who have been here thus far.
Please find it in your kind and compassionate hearts to stand with us to fight against this change! We want to be extraordinary nurses, but it shouldn’t feel impossible to get there. This is a tough time for all of us and we are doing the best that we can with these circumstances. Please help us fight against this change! We want our voices to be heard. We appreciate it in advance!!!
