Due to a recent change in California Education Code, schools can no longer be labeled as public-charter schools. Orange County School of the Arts has decided to take the charter route but can no longer select people based off of talent. OCSA has built a reputation as a performing/visual arts school with a rigorous conservatory and academic curriculum. Due to the changes, there is now a lottery system. With the lottery system, there will be random selection for anyone to get in, disregarding talent. Overall, ignoring people who have worked very hard to get into the school. However taking placement activity status into consideration. The school is built off of amazingly talented students that have created OCSA's unique environment and prestige. This petition is to try and get OCSA grandfathered in from the code changes that have been implemented.
