Demands to Reconsider the Concerns of College Admission Applicants

Demands to Reconsider the Concerns of College Admission Applicants

The Issue

TARLAC STUDENTS’ ALLIANCE FOR EDUCATION RIGHTS AND WELFARE

This is our petition letter to the Tarlac State University administration regarding the issues faced by the college admission applicants.

TSUians and the youth of Tarlac are expected to engage in our concerns to advance our demands and calls.

PETITION LETTER.

We, students, parents, teachers, and concerned citizens, undersigned in this petition paper, would like to forward student rights and welfare issues affecting college applicants of Tarlac State University, and demand immediate answer and solution from the Tarlac State University administrators.

On the day of the entrance examination, applicants were surprised that there was no proper briefing about the examination process.

Upon releasing of results, it has found out that over 12, 000 applicants, only 2, 000 passed the college admission test. However, the examination results released by the TSU Admission Center were suspiscious and there was no proper presentation of calculation of the test results. Also the applicants’ personal information was not accurately written in the result paper.

Meanwhile, the previous years, the TSU admission center provides an option to applicants, allowing them to take different course if they fail to attain the cut-off grade for their chosen course. But for this year, applicants who did not pass the admission test were not advised to take any options. Instead, they were advised to enroll to different universities or wait for another year to apply again.

There were also applicants who passed the college admission test with 3% of accumulated score but there were some applicants with 14% of accumulated score but they were not qualified to enroll to the university.

Moreover, this policy was shortly announced and abruptly implemented despite the lack of information from the applicants.

Therefore, we petition the TSU administrators to address the following concerns:

1. Reconsider applicants who did not obtain the passing grade in the course of their first choice and provide them the option of taking another course in different college.

2. Why the test results are not properly presented?

3. Present the score computation for each applicants for the transparency results.

4. Provide definitive answer as to why applicants who got the 3% exam score are accepted while applicants who got 14% are not.

5. We demand clarification on why the administration implemented sudden and major changes on the college admission test and its policies without prior notice.

6. We demand a dialogue between affected students, parents, and TSU administrators to cater and resolve our grievances concerning the students’ education rights and welfare and to uphold academic freedom in this institution. As we believe that the TSU is ensuring and equitable access to education for people empowerment.
