Old Dominion University has decided to make its Spring graduation ceremonies a virtual ceremony, due to the corona virus crisis. While that is an understandable reason, it is not fair to the students graduating to miss out on an authentic ceremony.

    In light of this, a petition is made asking Old Dominion President John Broderick to allow  May 2020 graduates to participate in the December 2020 commencement ceremony, as a better alternative to a virtual graduation ceremony. This would work better for ODU graduates because they would still have the opportunity to experience a complete graduation ceremony and with the December graduating class being significantly smaller than that of May’s, it’s possible to squeeze people in both ceremonies together.

   Obviously, ODU would have to make some adjustments and strategies for this to work, but it can be accomplished! We trust that President Broderick and all of ODU faculty love their students enough to work this together in order that the Spring of 2020’s graduating class receives the graduation ceremony they deserves.
