Hoodies or Jackets at Auburn High School
Hoodies or Jackets at Auburn High School
After the events of Tuesday 1/4/2022 at Auburn High School, where two 17 year olds were shot in the parking lot, Auburn High School has implemented new policy’s such as scanning your ID at the door to get into the school, closed campus for lunch, and higher security presence.
Along with the new policies above Auburn High School Administration is going to now strictly enforce students inability to wear hooded apparel, hooded apparel must be off away in their locker or in their backpack. Students seen wearing anything with a hood will be kicked out of class, or not even let in, and sent to change. This rule will be implemented as soon as Monday 1/10/2022, where the highest temperature is estimated to be 12 degrees Fahrenheit. Auburn shuts off heating at around 9am every school day. Some of the Pods (a mobile classroom that has been placed in the back of the school) don’t have heating. Plus, students and teachers have to walk to and from the Pods to get to classes, meetings, etc.
This is an unacceptable policy. Even if we do have this enforce INSIDE of school, how is this going to prevent a fight, or shooting in the parking lot? Also, I would understand if it was closer to the summer, but in the middle of winter, students will freeze. Instead of enforcing the policy we should just stick to the no hats no hoods policy that is implemented district wide.
