WDS Campaign - Promote Inclusive Language

WDS Campaign - Promote Inclusive Language
The Issue
We Don’t Say (WDS) Campaign is aimed to raise awareness on the importance of inclusive language among students in HELP University, Malaysia. Inclusive language refers to language that acknowledges all forms of personal identities as equally valuable. Inclusive language is free from stereotyped, prejudiced, or discriminatory views of individuals or their group memberships. Inclusive language does not intentionally or unintentionally exclude individuals from being part of the society. Inclusive language treats individuals of any age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, mental and physical ability, religious view, and political view with sensitivity and respect that they are entitled to. We can promote inclusive language by taking the following steps:
1. Be more mindful of the meaning of our words and rephrase our language.
2. Apologize for any wrong choice of words and be extra careful in the future.
3. Engage in conversations with individuals who use noninclusive language.
4. Share the campaign materials (e.g., videos and posters) to raise more awareness.
Let us use the power of words to build a safe and welcoming community together.
This campaign was inspired by similar inclusive language campaigns at other tertiary institutions and brought to you by the WDS Crew.
