Eliminate the 7-Point Grading System
The Issue
The Seven point grading system should be changed and turned into a nationwide 10-Point Grading system. Through middle school and high school, students tend to worry much more about their grades. The seven-point grading system causes a lot of stress on children and is an unfair playing field compared to the public school who use the general 10-Point Grading System. College admissions will be misled by the grades because a “92” at most private schools would be considered a “B” instead of an “A”, which the grade would be if the private school used a 10-Point Grading System.
Overall, the 7-Point grading system does more harm than good. The private schools who use this grading system already have a much more challenging curriculum compared to the public schools, and a stricter grading scale should not be added on top of that. As a middle school student, I struggle with school. I used to go to a public school, which there my grades were great. My parents were satisfied because they saw straight A’s. Many of these A’s were 91s and 92s. At my private school my report card looks much worse because of the harder course AND the stricter grading system on top of the already challenging classwork and homework.
With the 10-Point grading scale in place nationwide through private schools, a decrease in depression and negativity among students would instantly occur. Many of those 84’s on the tests they took that were originally C’s would now be B’s. I am talking about negativity and depression mainly because through my private school experience, it has constantly happened to me. I have had very low points in my life and many of them have had to do with the strict grading scale.
That’s about all I have to say. Please consider signing, it will create a better future for all students and spread positivity among private schools. Thank you.
