Demands for USF Safety Protocol
The Issue
In light of the recent events that unfolded on the night of November 24th 2019, students of the University of San Francisco have compiled a list of demands that put the lives and well-being of the student body as the number one priority.
1. Transparency of what the exact procedures in emergency situations are.
- Have a clear outline as to what may be expected from officials in an emergency situation.
- Have a clear outline of what is expected of students as a response in an emergency situation.
- Guidelines on what information students should relay in an emergency situation.
2. Transparency on what exactly “timely warning” is and in what situation(s) is it to be enacted according to the Director of Public Safety.
- Functioning emergency systems such as panic buttons, emergency doors, and exits, etc. in all residence halls and main buildings.
- More awareness and accessibility surrounding campus emergency phones.
3. Adding training for potential/active shooter(s) along with the mandatory “think about it” training students are required to take at the beginning of the year as well as de-escalation training.
