Due to the Covid 19 pandemic the University of Namibia was forced into an abrupt transition to online learning in the second half of the first semester in 2020 where students were required to quickly adapt to online teaching and learning, having been accustomed to face to face teaching and learning this transition was quite a challenge for students. At the end of the 1st semester students were required to  strictly write online exams because of the stringent Covid 19 measures and regulations that prohibited all Gatherings of all sorts. In the second semester the University of Namibia continued with the online teaching and learning mode, however when the Covid measures and regulations have been eased the University adapted both online and Face to face Exams.

Who where the students that where required to write face to face exam?

  • All the final year students
  • All Mathematical and calculations based modules and;
  • All modules that were regulated by an external body E.g Accounting, Medical students etc

Student who didn't fall under the above criteria wrote online exams.

The University Released official information that stated that students who wrote online exam and didn't reach a Minimum of 50% (ie. fail) in a module would be allowed to write a second opportunity Examination with no charge. However students that wrote face to face exams and have not reached a minimum of 50% (ie fail) are required to pay for the summer school program in order to write exams. Further more the Summer school will be offered online which will be quite cumbersome for students given that online study and teaching methods was a major contribution to performing so poorly in their face to face exam.

What are we petitioning for?
We are petitioning for all Students regardless of the medium they wrote exam to be given a second opportunity examination without charge. For all students to be given fair and equal opportunity that no student will be left behind.

Who can sign the petition?
All students from the University of Namibia that are in support of this cause.
