Students Against Project Oak and Sail
The Issue
Project Oak and Project Sail are two large-scale data centers planned for Coweta County, Georgia. These two projects will cost $17 million dollars and take up to 4.3 to 4.9 million square feet of land-- Project Oak specifically near residential areas. These projects present an environmental concern for Coweta County, as data centers consume anywhere from 300,000 to 5 million gallons of water per day and take up a significant amount of land. Not only do these data centers consume large quantities of water, but also emit a continuous, low-frequency hum constantly with prolonged exposure being linked to sleep disruptions, elevated stress hormones, and headaches.
