Remove Chick-Fil-A from inclusive universities UNF Students Against Chick-Fil-A

Why this petition matters

Started by Gerald Joseph

Our goal is to block the potential admittance of Chick-Fil-A operations at the University of North Florida. Written below, includes the University of North Florida's Institutional Values, and facts about the Chik-Fil-A corporation.

Five Facts about Chick-fil-A From Campus Pride

1.) Chick-fil-A profits fund documented hate groups that aggressively work against LGBT people, advocating for their criminalization, psychological abuse or death.

2.) Chick-fil-A profits support the radical-right-wing group Eagle Forum, which supports LGBT people being considered criminals.

3.) Chick-fil-A profits support Exodus International, which claims to "cure homosexuality" through psychological coercion of LGBT people. It says LGBT people are "perverse."

4.) Chick-fil-A profits support Focus on the Family (FOF) and its off-shoot group, Family Research Council (FRC), which has been designated as a hate group by Southern Poverty Law Center. FOF aggressively defames LGBT people as a threat to children and FRC spent $25,000 to stop the US Congress from condemning Uganda's "Kill the Gays" policy that would execute all gay people.

Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index

Chick-fil-A has a 0 rating on the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index, which signifies that the company does not offer one protection, one benefit, or even one diversity training for its LGBT employees.

The Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index says that Chick-fil-A does not have a nondiscrimination policy that includes sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

Universities' Responses to chick Fil A

Bans:

Davidson College in North Carolina is banning Chick-fil-A, becoming the first in the nation to do so.

Northeastern University, student government, decided against a CFA franchise in the student union.

Other universities where there are petitions to remove CFA from student unions: NYU, Loyola, Marshall, Duke, University of Maryland, Wichita State University, Univ. of Louisville.

Universities that Defend Chick-Fil-A:

Indiana University reviewed CFA's presence on campus and decided that the company "has the right to provide its food and resources to any event it wants to support."

Wichita State University said they had no reason to believe CFA had discriminated against people on campus, so they did not believe any action was necessary.

CFA's response:

"The Chick-fil-A culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect - regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender. We will continue this tradition in the over 1,600 restaurants run by independent owner/operators. Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena."

CLEARLY Chick-fil-A's values contradicts the University of North Florida's institutional core values. UNF has an inclusive, and diverse student body and their actions undermine the makeup of what our institution represents.
