NAU saves AzSPP, Argosy Phoenix

NAU saves AzSPP, Argosy Phoenix
The Issue
The Arizona School of Professional Psychology (AzSPP), formerly a program at Argosy University, was well known for preparing students to become competent and well-rounded psychologists well equipped to meet the mental health needs of the community. AzSPP had an extensive curriculum taught by knowledgable and experienced faculty, and was recently awarded 10 years of accreditation by the American Psychological Association (APA). Although Argosy University has closed, the students have not wavered in their drive and motivation to become psychologists. To see the program dissolve with no attempt to save it is tragic and that is why we are asking Northern Arizona University for assistance. The students that attended AzSPP remain dedicated to life-long learning, upholding ethical standards, and providing excellent care to a variety of populations in the community. Although a few colleges out of state have agreed to admit Argosy students, relocating is not an option for many of the Phoenix students due to having children, families, and limited financial options. Other programs in areas like Chicago, Los Angeles, Irvine, Tampa, and D.C. have identified schools willing to absorb the Argosy professional psychology programs. If NAU were to consider this opportunity with AzSPP, not only would a strong APA accredited program be gained, but the students would be a proud representation of NAU’s values of promoting learning through their student-first foundation. AzSPP was able to accomplish a student-first environment, but unfortunately Argosy University did not. Currently, as Arizona students we come together to ask for your consideration and your assistance.
Highest Regards,
AzSPP Psy.D. Students
