Pass or Fail Option for FIU Students

Pass or Fail Option for FIU Students

The Issue

By signing this petition, your electronic signature will be counted towards the support of this option. Simply because you are not someone who is affected, and this may not be your problem, does not mean that you cannot support the young generation of college students who are currently struggling for a reason out of our reach.

The COVID-19 virus has impacted everyone at home, work, and school. Many students at FIU have been struggling to keep their grades up as they need to deal with other matters that are also important. The transition to online classes has clearly taken a negative effect on a large portion of FIU students. The same option for Spring of 2020 worked extremely well, which is why we would like to have this option for this semester as well.

Many FIU students choose to attend FIU for the in-person lectures and resources offered that cannot be taken advantage of at someone's home. Uncontrollable situations such as loss of internet for unknown reasons, unfamiliarity with online software, and other problems that may have, or already have risen this Fall semester have all done their damage to the academic potential of the student body.

Many other universities, such as the University of Colorado Boulder, have extended this option for the Fall semester with similar guidelines for the policy. The unprecedented impact of the COVID-19 virus on the education system of America and the mental health of its students. We urge the Student Government of the Florida International University to pass legislation that will help the student body recuperate from this difficult and unprecedented semester.
