I have heard from many residents as well as past and present Robert Bateman High School students regarding the closure of the school and the consensus has been unanimous...closing the school IS NOT a good decision.
Any knowledgeable realtor will tell you that the older homes in east Burlington are being renovated and purchased by much younger families and the future need for a local high school is imperative. You're not looking at the long term enrollment only the short term. Homes in the area will be less desirable because many families have a requirement for local schooling when purchasing a home.
Also, there's the over-crowding at Dr. Frank J. Hayden Secondary School. The boundary line should be moved or the French Immersion students could be moved to Robert Bateman. Resolving over-crowding with portables is not the answer either.
The various programs offered at this school would be costly to replicate at any other school not to mention providing the stability for the special needs students and transportation issues. Every student and the parents of students attending this school have given nothing but positive feedback of their achievements at Robert Bateman High School
We ask that you reconsider your assessment of the closure. Robert Bateman is needed now and in the future.
