Just 11 days after Mayor Cleveland released a letter calling for Cobourg to become “as hostile a place as possible” to criminals - while dangerously conflating criminality with those who are unhoused or accessing mental health and addiction services -masked assailants violently attacked members of Cobourg's unhoused community.
This horrifying act of violence is not an isolated incident. It is the predictable outcome of hostile rhetoric from our Town’s highest office. When leadership uses language that dehumanizes vulnerable people, it legitimizes hatred and incites harm.
We say: Enough.
We are calling on all concerned residents to march on Cobourg Town Hall tomorrow, Wednesday, July 16th at 1:30 PM, to show that Cobourg stands for dignity, compassion, and safety — not violence, fear, or scapegoating.
Mayor Cleveland’s words have fueled real-world harm. His rhetoric has no place in public leadership. He must immediately retract his incendiary statements and resign.
Let’s show up, speak out, and demand better for Cobourg.
