Strip Peter Mandelson of His 'Lord' Title Immediately

The Issue

Peter Mandelson, a former Labour Cabinet minister and ex-ambassador to the United States, must be stripped of his life peerage in the House of Lords and not allowed to continue using the title “Lord.”

Revelations this week indicate that Mandelson allegedly leaked highly sensitive UK government information to convicted paedophile and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein while serving as a senior minister, including confidential tax plans and details of proposed asset sales - potentially including the UK’s gold reserves!

We’ve also learnt that:

  • The Metropolitan Police are now reviewing whether Mandelson’s actions amount to misconduct in public office or other offences.
  • New documents show payments from Epstein to Mandelson or his husband, raising further public concern.
  • Prime Minister Keir Starmer believes Peter Mandelson should not remain a member of the House of Lords, and that current parliamentary rules are too weak to remove peers who have brought the institution into disrepute.

Under the present system, merely resigning from the Lords or relinquishing the whip does not legally remove a peerage, and a life peer can continue to use the title “Lord” if they resign. But an Act of Parliament can be passed to get rid of Mandelson.

The Prime Minister has said that Mandelson shouldn’t remain a Lord, so now he needs to put his money where his mouth is.

That’s why I’m calling on the Government to:

  1. Initiate a new Act of Parliament specifically designed to strip Peter Mandelson of his peerage and the right to use the title “Lord,” recognising the seriousness of leaking sensitive state information to a convicted criminal.
  2. Ensure that this legislation sets a clear precedent empowering Parliament to remove honours and peerages from individuals whose conduct has brought the integrity of public office into question.
  3. Support any necessary independent investigation or judicial inquiry into Mandelson’s conduct, and ensure full transparency to restore public trust

Please sign this petition to demand accountability and ensure that British titles reflect the honour and responsibility they are meant to represent.
