Strip George Rekers of the title 'professor emeritus' from University of SC School of Medicine.

Dr. George Rekers, who currently holds the title of professor emeritus at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, has recently been linked to the 2003 suicide of Kirk Muprhy. Murphy's parents handed him over to Reckers in the 1970s in order to 'cure' the feminine traits he had been exuding. Whether the parents were ignorant of Rekers' perverse methods or not, Rekers' use of behaviorist methods to discourage feminine behavior ultimately influenced a large chunk of Murphy's decision to commit suicide.

Rekers went on to publish Murphy's treatment as a successful case study, and continued to publish anti-gay science thereafter. Although his reputation has been forever tarnished due to an unrelated scandal in which he was caught with a male escort, the fact that Rekers still holds the title of professor emeritus at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine maintains the last shred of credibility that one can attribute to him. If you sign this petition, you not only ask for the title of professor emeritus to be stripped of Rekers' current reputation, but you also support the upholding of an ethical standard in the practice of clinical psychology.
