Stricter spay/neuter laws

Stricter spay/neuter laws
The Issue
The Daviess County animal shelter is being over run with cats. Volunteers, workers, vets, and vet techs can only do so much. It seems like almost every week there’s a huge intake. These past couple of days, there were almost 40 cats surrendered. It took hours to get them vaxxed, fed and watered, and set up in kennels. These cats were from a hoarding situation.
In Illinois, it is mandatory to get your animals fixed. Why don’t we have that here? These animals are suffering and there’s not much we can do about it because people keep breeding. We have too many intakes and not enough adoptions to keep up. If a law isn’t put into place, countless animals will go through the same situations as the cats mentioned above. Some may never see the safety of a shelter but rather a life of suffocation
Our community has been blessed with a strong team of volunteers, myself included. I see firsthand every single day the results of not fixing your pets. This kitten season has hit the shelter hard. If a stricter spay/neuter law is implemented soon, we won’t be this way next season. If you think this law is important, please sign. If you don’t think it’s important, sign anyway because it’s so very important for the shelter.
