Me and my mother went to Dollar General in Reed City, Michigan last summer to pick up some supplies for our rescue cats, we looked beside our car in the parking lot and saw a dog in a car panting so hard to the point she was gonna have a heart attack.

There was no water in the car, no AC on. We went in the store hoping the owner would come out soon.

30 minutes later we came out, the car with the dog was still there, panting gotten faster, she was collapsed in the back seat of the car. My mother called the police, and their response:

"Don't touch the car or you'll go to jail".

Despite laws against animal cruelty in place, these laws don't protect a dog from being cooked alive in a hot car in Michigan. Along with the risk of heat stroke, dogs can also be poisoned in a hot car. The dash of a car is made mostly of plastic, and when that plastic heats up, it releases toxic chemicals into the air.
