The Issue

This petition calls for the strengthening of Atlanta Public Schools' Progressive Discipline framework through the addition of sociology and psychology in elementary and middle schools. By providing students with early social science education, they are better equipped with emotional intelligence, conflict-resolution skills, and social awareness to prevent disciplinary actions before they even arise. We can avoid punitive discipline and disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline by teaching students how to understand themselves and their surroundings. I encourage all of you to support a more just, supportive, and emotionally intelligent school system. Sign below to ensure every student gains the tools they need to thrive, and not be pushed out.
