Over the past few months Keep The Ban has been very busy campaigning to expose and end wildlife crime and bloodsports. We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us so far, whether you have signed a petition, written to an MP, engaged and shared content on social media, donated, or purchased something from our shop, everything contributes to our vision of a more compassionate future for wildlife.
Here is a quick update and next steps for some of our policy campaigns:
Petitions
· Our petition to end hunting on Forestry England land surpassed 100,000 and secured a Parliamentary debate – we are awaiting confirmation on the date, and we will inform you as soon as it is announced.
· Thank you to everyone who used our online email tool. Thanks to your effort and commitment, over 110,000 emails have been sent to landowners asking them to permanently end trail hunt licences. With the support of the Forestry England petition (highlighted above) this has secured the temporary landowner trail hunt suspensions that are now in place. We are currently waiting on landowners to make a final decision before the start of the new hunting season although major landowners such as the National Trust have yet to confirm a date in which the suspensions will be reviewed.
· In addition to the Forestry England suspension, our campaigning also helped pressure several major landowners to suspend “trail hunt” licences leading to 4 million acres of land being out of bounds
· Following the sad attack on the domestic cat Mini, we helped launch the campaign for Mini’s Law generating over 38,000 signatures pushing for the government to amend the Public and Animal Safety Bill 2021. The exposure of this issue has led to the culprit being charged on three counts. We continue to push the petition to 100,000 signatures so it can be discussed in parliament.
Thank you again to everyone, none of this would be possible without your support. Together we can build a more compassionate future for wildlife.
Kind regards
