The Issue

Working as a Therapeutic Behavior Assistant, I have witnessed firsthand the immense challenges that employees face when advocating for vulnerable children. It is a heartbreaking choice when compassionate individuals are forced to prioritize job security over standing up for the welfare of at-risk children and families. This is why I am calling for the introduction and passing of the Tony Law in Washington, DC.

The situation is dire. Private-sector employees who dare to speak up about concerns involving vulnerable children often fear severe repercussions, including the threat of job loss. These individuals play a vital role in flagging issues that might otherwise go unnoticed, ensuring that children and families receive the care and protection they deserve. Yet, their brave efforts are hindered by a lack of robust whistleblower protections.

The proposed Tony Law would offer crucial safeguards for employees who report in good faith, empowering them to bring transparency and integrity into the system without fear of losing their livelihoods. By removing the intimidation factor, this law would foster an environment where employees feel safe and encouraged to report any misconduct or issues concerning child safety.

Transparency and accountability are paramount. By passing the Tony Law, the DC government would make a strong statement about its commitment to protecting vulnerable children and families. The law would not only serve as a deterrent against unethical practices but also create a culture that values honesty and integrity.

We must urge the DC Council to act now and prioritize the welfare of vulnerable children by enacting the Tony Law. Our children deserve a system that operates transparently and with full accountability, and it is our duty to ensure that. By safeguarding whistleblowers, we take a crucial step towards better protections for those who need them most.

Please join me in urging the DC government to pass the Tony Law. Sign this petition to ensure that no worker has to choose between protecting a child and keeping their job. Together, we can create a safer, more transparent system for vulnerable children and families. Your support is invaluable. Sign the petition today.
